Poster Contest

Details of the Access Energy Poster Contest

  • Annual contest runs from December to February 2.
  • Two winning posters will be selected from each grade level.
  • A certificate and a $50 savings bond will be awarded to each winner.
  • Winning posters will be entered in the state competition for a chance to win one of two $100 savings bonds for each grade. Posters entered in the state competition will be used in energy education activities throughout the state.

Contest Purpose

To increase both student and general public awareness of energy efficiency and renewable fuels.

Themes

Poster should focus upon one or both of the following themes:

  • Energy conservation/efficiency
  • Renewable sources of energy such as wind, biomass, or solar

Eligibility

Access Energy competition is open to all students in grades one through six in the following counties: Jefferson, Keokuk, Van Buren, Wapello, Washington, Henry, Lee, Louisa, and Des Moines.

Criteria for Judging

  • Accuracy of Information: is the poster's message factually correct?
  • Appearance and Creativity: legible writing, correct spelling, creative elements
  • Effectiveness of Message: does the poster educate the viewer on energy efficiency and/or renewable energy?
  • SIZE
  • All entries must range between 11" X 17" and 18" x 24" (no matting), to be eligible for judging.
  • Entries may be in horizontal or vertical formats.

Specific Rules

  • Each student may enter only one poster.
  • Each student must create his or her own poster.
  • Posters may be created in any medium.
  • All entries will become the property of Access Energy Cooperative. The winning entry of each grade level will become the property of the University of Northern Iowa.
  • All entries must be submitted unfolded.
  • All entries must have a label located on the back lower right corner of the poster. On the label print or type the student's:
  • Full Name, Mailing Address
  • Grade Level, School Name
  • Teacher's Name, Principal's Name
  • School Telephone, School Address

Deadlines

Posters must be postmarked by:

  • February 2nd to be eligible for the Access Energy competition
  • March 1st for the state competition
