Propane Winter Safety Reminders

February 09, 2006
Following these simple steps will help ensure you have a warm and safe winter:

  • Provide a clear pathway to your propane tank. Please keep driveways accessible in the event you need a propane delivery.
  • Just like walkways, propane equipment needs to be cleared of snow after a storm. If a propane tank is buried under several feet of snow, it is best to use a broom to carefully clear the snow off the tank and around any exposed piping, regulator, gauges and tubing.
  • Gas intake and exhaust vents for the clothes dryer, furnace and water heater should be clear of snow or ice. A four-foot area should be kept clear around the vents to prevent high winds from funneling in.
  • Regulator vents on the propane system should be free of condensation, which, if frozen, could cause a malfunction. If a regulator vent is clogged with ice or snow, contact us immediately.
  • If you have an underground propane tank, please mark its location with a brightly colored stake or flag several inches above the ground so we can see your tank in a heavy snow storm.
  • If you have questions about any of these reminders, please call Access Energy Propane at 319-385-1577
