Propane Winter Safety Reminders

Following these simple steps provided by Access Energy Propane will help ensure you have a warm and safe winter:

1.      Provide a clear pathway to your propane tank. Please keep driveways accessible in the event you need a propane delivery.

2.      Just like walkways, propane equipment needs to be cleared of snow after a storm. If a propane tank is buried under several feet of snow, it is best to use a broom to carefully clear the snow off the tank and around any exposed piping, regulator, gauges and tubing.

3.      Gas intake and exhaust vents for the clothes dryer, furnace and water heater should be clear of snow or ice. A four-foot area should be kept clear around the vents to prevent high winds from funneling in.

4.      Regulator vents on the propane system should be free of condensation, which, if frozen, could cause a malfunction. If a regulator vent is clogged with ice or snow, contact us immediately.

5.      If you have an underground propane tank, please mark its location with a brightly colored stake or flag several inches above the ground so we can see your tank in a heavy snow storm.
