New Technology to Seal Out Drafts

February 14, 2006
A Jamestown, North Dakota, builder has come up with a simple way to solve the common problem of energy loss around electrical-outlet boxes.

Joel Anderson applied his 40-year experience in the trade to develop Energy Block, a foam-insulation product that seals drafts.

"I was successful in building super-insulated homes," Anderson explains. "But one of the difficult areas to stop air infiltration and energy loss was around and through electrical boxes."

Energy Block is specially molded to fit around standard outlet boxes. It can be installed in less than two minutes.

Anderson says researchers at North Dakota State University in Fargo estimate that homeowners can save $50 a year if the device is installed on all the outlet boxes in their home.

Anderson began marketing Energy Block nationally in April. The blocks come in three sizes, from $2.15 to $3.50 each, with discounts for bulk orders.
