Board of Directors Welcome State Legislators Back to Capitol
Representatives from 34 electric cooperatives, including Access Energy Cooperative, welcomed approximately 80 state legislators back to the Capitol for the 83rd Iowa General Assembly at the Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives’ annual Welcome Back Reception held Jan. 12 at the State Historical Building.
More than 130 co-op directors and employees, including all directors from Access Energy Cooperative, greeted the approximately 80 legislators in attendance for the event, which was held jointly with the Iowa Institute for Cooperatives, the Petroleum Marketers of Iowa and the Iowa Biotechnology Association.
The event is an excellent opportunity to connect or reconnect with legislators, which helps electric co-op representatives establish or reinforce existing relationships with the men and women who’ve been elected to represent the best interests of the Iowans they serve.
“I really appreciated Dave Heaton taking time to attend the event,” said President Fred Hickenbottom. “All 150 of Iowa’s state legislators have a lot on their plate, most of which has to do with the state’s budget, and I think they were a little relieved after talking with electric co-op representatives since we’re not asking for any financial help from the state.”
