Access Energy Cooperative Reaches Goal to Help Change the World
Access Energy Cooperative has helped protect the environment for future generations by encouraging more than 420 individuals to take the ENERGY STAR Change a Light Pledge. In doing so, we’ve exceeded our goal and fulfilled our commitment to the ENERGY STAR Change a Light, Change the World Campaign. Lighting can account for about 20 percent of the typical home's electricity use and switching to an energy-efficient option is a significant way to reduce greenhouse gases, save energy, and protect the environment.
Access Energy Cooperative committed to collect 250 pledges from members, directors and employees in southeast Iowa to replace at least one incandescent bulb or fixture at home with one that has earned the government's ENERGY STAR label. Access Energy Cooperative exceeded our goal, and the individuals who pledged to change a light will have a dramatic impact. Their actions have the potential to save more than 118,440 kWh of energy and 187,320 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions.
“Changing just one light in your home will save those in our community time, energy and money, but that's not all,” said Kimberly Brumbaugh, Director of Marketing. “Ultimately these steps will have a significant impact on our environment and we are proud that so many people in our community have committed to do their part.”
