Swindell Addresses Environmental Responsiblity at Conference

February 29, 2008
At a recent statewide conference on environmental responsibility, General Manager/CEO of Access Energy Cooperative, Robert Swindell, spoke to the audience about a special task force organized to research and address environmental responsibility for electric cooperatives.

“Iowa’s electric cooperatives believe that responses to climate change must encompass a balanced, common-sense approach that ensures adequate, reliable and affordable electric service,” said Swindell. “Any plan to address our carbon footprint must include responsible investments in all resources including energy efficiency, renewable energy, and other generation technologies.”

“Electric cooperatives support reasonable solutions that include an economy wide plan to address greenhouse gases, so no single industry sector is economically disadvantaged,” he added.

Interestingly enough, Iowa is the top state in the nation for spending dollars on energy efficiency measures per capita. Access Energy Cooperative is among the top 17 rural electric cooperatives that account for 80% of all Iowa rural electric cooperatives’ megawatt hours saved through energy efficiency measures.

Also attending the conference in Coralville, IA, from Access Energy Cooperative were: Directors Jeff Rich, Don Atwood, Richard Bloomquist, Marvin Holtkamp, Larry White, Ron Campbell, Dwight Krebill, Fred Kickenbottom and staff members Kimberly Brumbaugh, Sheryl Dorn, David Peer, Don Roach and Vernon Mitchell.
