March 23, 2008
Effective January 1, 2008, with a few exceptions, anyone practicing as an electrician in the State of Iowa will be required by law to be licensed by the State Electrical Examining Board.

If you have a current license by a political subdivision (city or county) you may continue to work, within that city or county only, without a state license

License applications and instructions are available at www.dps.state.ia.us/fm/electrician/index.shtml or you can call 1.866.923.1082. Applications should be submitted as soon as possible with the required fee.

Questions regarding this program can be emailed to elecinfo@dps.state.ia.us or by calling the toll free number above.
