Energy Efficiency In The New Building
With our focus on energy efficiency, we want to “practice what we preach,” and we have tried to do this in the design and construction of our new office building. The office building has a geothermal heating and cooling system which utilizes closed loop wells on the east and west sides of the building.
The south side of the office building utilizes a “passive solar” collector that will provide part of the heating in the winter months. The passive solar stores heat from the sun in an interior masonry wall and tiled floor. During the construction last winter it was the warmest spot in the building.
The glass exterior also adds to the energy efficiency of the building. Lighting in an office takes significantly more energy than in your home. Configuration of the office spaces and the windows allow us to take advantage of natural lighting reducing our overall energy use.
The contractors are continuing to make progress on our new headquarters facility. Most of the work taking place in the office is painting and tiling. There is still a little bit of concrete floor to be poured in the warehouse. Like a lot of folks, we need several dry days to finish the concrete work outside. We are still expecting to move around the first of July.
