The following are legislative issues currently being considered that could affect your cooperative. Find out what the issues are about and how your cooperative could be affected by them by clicking on them.
Net Metering
Iowa's electric cooperatives strongly support and encourage the development of consumer-owned generation and renewable energy. Locally elected cooperative boards have the authority to implement net metering and some have chosen to do so. Cooperatives should retain the right to implement policies they believe are in the best interest of their entire membership. Read here more information on why net metering should not be mandated by law.
Assigned Service Areas
In Iowa, electric utilities have assigned service areas in which they are exclusive provider of electric service. This system has become a national model for efficient, coordinated delivery of safe and reliable electric service. Find out here how this reliable system could be in jeopardy.
Renewable Energy
Iowa's electric cooperatives understand the value renewable energy plays in our overall energy portfolio and in protecting the environment. Here's just a glimpse into a few of the ways RECs are integrating renewables into our systems.
