Be sure to know where utility poles are located to avoid damaging electrical equipment. Some things to think about before you light the match to prevent burn-related damage to power poles:
- Plan before you begin.
- Check the weather forecast for wind. Also, you should burn when relative humidity level is 40 percent or higher.
- Clear all vegetation and weeds at least four feet around the base of any utility poles in the area of burning.
- Wet the base of any poles in the vicinity with water before burning.
